Combinatorics, Number Theory

di WebTRAD - publié le , mis à jour le

Our research deals with the three following main themes: combinatorics, number theory and discrete structures. We especially take care of interactions between these themes.

Presentation of the research themes

The research themes of the team can be divided into the following six main directions:

  • Automata, words combinatorics, arithmetic of special functions;
  • (Enumerative, algebraic, analytic) combinatorics, special functions and their interactions;
  • Graphs, orders, infinite combinatorics;
  • Additive number theory, additive combinatorics, densities;
  • Algebraic and algorithmic number theory, L functions, ultrametric analysis, Drinfeld modulus;
  • Analytic number theory, zeta functions.

Activities, events

  • Working Seminar on Differential Galois Theory
    The aim of this theory is to understand differential equations with an algebraic point of view. More precisely, one can associate a group (the differential Galois group) to a linear differential equation, and this groups contains information on the algebraic relations between the solutions of this system. The aim of this working seminar is to first discover this domain through introductory lectures, without prerequisites. On Mondays, 2pm to 4pm, Room 112 (Braconnier building).
  • ICJ-ENS Arithmetic Seminar
    The invited speakers of this seminar talk about arithmetics, with a focus on arithmetic geometry, the study of Galois representations and related subjetcs. Every two weeks, on Thursdays, at ENS, Room 435.
  • ICJ-Fourier Number theory Seminar
    This seminar is co-organized by the number theory teams of Institut Camille Jordan (Lyon 1 University and Saint-Etienne University) and Institut Fourier (Grenoble Alpes University). Twice a year, one day with four talks, alternatively at Institut Fourier or Institut Camille Jordan.
  • Conference : Analogies between number field and function field: algebraic and analytic approaches
    In the arithmetic study of global fields in non-zero characteristic, several advances have been made by understanding analogies between number fields and function fields. With this conference, we would like to see the two worlds (that of the arithmetic over the rational integers and that of the arithmetic of the polynomial rings in one indeterminate over a finite field) interact along specific topics such as difference Galois theory, multi-zeta values and L-functions. The conference will includes five series of lectures given by specialists in these domains, and several talks. 27 June - 1st July 2016, Institut Camille Jordan.
