Scope of the workshop.
This workshop aims at gathering together researchers from different background interested in the theory of non linear waves and in particular dispersive shock waves and their relevance in physical applications.
Dispersive shock waves are found as solutions of partial differential equations of mixed hyperbolic/dispersive type. This type of systems describes, various physical phenomenon like water wave propagation (Boussinesq, Green-Naghdi, Korteweg-de Vries and Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equations), nonlinear optics (nonlinear Schroedinger, Davey Stewartson equations) and Bose Einstein condensation (Gross-Pitaevski equations).
The workshop will be focused on the following questions:
* qualitative behaviour of solutions as dispersive terms goes to zero (Cauchy problem and time of existence, construction of dispersive shocks with matched asymptotics),
* stability of non linear waves (solitary waves, periodic waves) and Whitham's modulation theory (construction of generalized waves like shocks in parameters),
* numerical simulations of dispersive equations (numerical computation of dispersive shock waves, conservative schemes, treatment of boundary problems)
and numerical analysis (stability, convergence) of dispersive equations.
